“Brightest witch of her age and all…” She rolled her eyes at him as she finished off the letter. Hermione thought for a moment slightly amused by his actions. She had never seen him this way. “It will be fine like I said before.” As their eyes connected, she paused and her heart beginning to hammer. It was the only way to draw away suspicion wasn’t it?
“Well…” She started as she broke their eye contact and looked away, a blush beginning to stain her cheeks. Deciding to just be straight forward, Hermione just let the words tumble from her lips. “We could pretend to date… As charming as you are and regardless that I might truly enjoy your company, we would still need an excuse to spend time together that people around us would believe. I mean unless you have a suggestion.” She shook her head for a moment before letting out a soft laugh. “apparently we are the source of a lot of gossip especially after the wedding we danced at.”
And there it was. He tried not to smirk
“Pretend to date,” he repeated, drawing out the words, enjoying watching her obvious discomfort. “And so, your theory, Brightest Witch of Our Age, is to get tongues wagging about our … err… personal lives… in order to shield us from any questions that might result in uncovering my confidential project.?”
He stared at her, his grey eyes clearly amused. Then, he stepped forward, closing the distance between them. “And you might truly enjoy my company and besides you consider me charming? Really, Granger? I had no idea.”
Draco fought a smile and lowered his face toward hers. And he stared into her eyes, dipping his gaze to flash across her lips.
“We could pretend to date.”
And then he stepped away, turning to the shelves, his back to her. “It’s as good a reason as any to keep the gossip under our control.”
